In 2022 Woodleigh introduced livestock into it's farm practices for rotationally crop grazing, with about 100 hair sheep including Barbados Black Belly and Katahdin. Our lambs are pasture fed and rotationally grazed during the growing season and fed high quality hay during the winter. These sheep play a pivotal role in maintaining the health of our fields by grazing cover crops, enriching the soil with their natural fertilization, and preventing the need for synthetic inputs. Our environmental stewardship extends to our lamb production, where we prioritize the well-being of our animals and the quality of the final product. Woodleigh Farms Ltd. was founded in 1902 and is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Cavan near Peterborough, ON. We are a multi-generational (6th generation) family run business with a diverse set of offerings.

These include maple syrup, a large vegetable market garden and greenhouse operation (plants, seedlings, perennials) as well as diverse crop production which includes the harvesting of firewood, corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, straw and hay.

We are committed to ensuring that all environmental impacts are considered when making decision in our operations, and we follow organic and sustainable practices in our market garden, greenhouse and maple syrup operations.

In recent years we have shifted away from traditional methods of agriculture to what we feel are more sustainable practices.  These include more crop rotations (better diversity), less use of commercial fertilizers (increasing organic sources), the use of cover crops (feeding the soil year round), managing our inputs (variable rate technologies to place fertilizer only where it is needed) as well as the use of clean energies (solar generation, composting of waste products as soil amendments etc), as well as no-till practices throughout our operation (reduction of soil compacting and C02 emissions).
