We (Paul Salanki and Heather Thoma) started LoonSong Farm in 2003 on Manitoulin Island in northern Ontario, growing organic produce with a market garden and CSA. In 2008 we began growing grains and milling, to use our skills and fill a need that wasn’t being met at a regional scale. In 2017 we moved our life and farming to Northumberland County, and we live near Cobourg.
We collaborate with several landowners across Northumberland to lease land for growing our certified organic grains. LoonSong products include fresh rolled oats, stone-ground flours, and dry beans, with availability varying year to year based on crop rotations and other factors. All of LoonSong’s farming uses organic and biodynamic practices, supporting both the health of the land and the health of the
farmer.
Our fields are certified organic by Eco-Cert. You will love the texture and flavor of LoonSong fresh rolled oats, which is our current product available via Green Circle. We enjoy helping to raise awareness about the importance of community connections to food growing and food processing, at a local and regional scale, and are excited to be part of Green Circle Food Hub!
