Forbes Wild Foods is a Toronto company founded by Jonathan Forbes, who grew up foraging with his mother in and around the city. Today it works with pickers in rural and remote communities across Canada, many of them Indigenous people, farmers and youth, who harvest wild foods with care for the land.
Saskatoon berries come from the prairies and taste like wild blueberries with a cherry and almond note. The skins are thicker than most berries, so this compote has a pleasing texture. Spoon it over toast, yogurt or ice cream, or warm it for pancakes and fall pies.
