Raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in Canada by a land-based farm called Sustainable Blue. They raise fish in a similar manner to Springhills with plenty of fresh water, low densities and eco-diets.
With a taste so wildly delicious, it's just like wild-caught Atlantic Salmon.
Over a billion people rely on the oceans as their primary source of protein. And yet, humans are destroying the very resource upon which so many of us depend with overfishing, pollution and irresponsible aquaculture practices. Some scientists say that in the last 60 years, stocks of large fish have fallen by 90% and that we are facing the collapse of all types of fish species in less than 50 years.
By raising salmon responsibly, we can help minimize humanity's impact on the ocean while still feeding the planet's growing population. Fish are one of the most efficient sources of protein on the planet -- if we can raise them in a way that doesn't damage coastal environments or endanger wild fish stocks, it puts us one step closer to finding a more sustainable balance between our needs and those of the planet.
Most land-based aquaculture fisheries recycle some of their water. Unfortunately even discharging only 1% wastewater back into the environment means that in practice, fish waste is simply more concentrated -- amounting to hundreds or even thousands of litres of pure effluent. Sustainable Blue is the world's first closed-loop land-based saltwater fishery that re-uses 100% of it's water, with zero wastewater emissions.
