Blueberries are a delicious juicy berry with a thin skin and a satisfying pop. Wild blueberries are smaller, with a more intense flavour than cultivated berries.
Blueberries cultivated in Ontario are usually of a high-bush variety, but these wild berries come from the low-bush variety found in the forests of Northern Ontario. They are usually ready to be picked in mid-July.
They have a short season, so best to enjoy immediately! They can also be stewed down into sauce, canned, frozen, dried, and baked with. They can be added to smoothies or made into pie filling.
