Crème Brûlée Shallots ~454g
Origin: Bethany, Ontario
Storage: Cellar
Shallots are closely related to onions and garlic. They bring a more subtle and sweet flavour to a dish then the stronger flavoured onion.
The Crème Brûlée shallot is a cross between an onion and a French shallot, also known as a banana or bottle shallot. They are large, elongated bulbs, with iridescent coppery-pink skin and delicate rosy-purple inner rings.
In the kitchen, they are tender and sweet with a subtle citrus note when eaten raw, and deeply rich when cooked. Their naturally high sugar content allows them to caramelize smoothly in a skillet, inspiring the "Crème Brûlée" name.
It was the first shallot variety to win an All-America Selections (AAS) award in 2021!
