Cherie fingerlings, also known as French fingerlings, are a rose-coloured fingerling potato with yellowish flesh, thin skin, and have a slight chestnut flavour. They tend to grow to a larger size than other fingerling potatoes. The French fingerling potato was developed and released commercially in France in the 1950’s. Created from a cross between the rosa and vale potatoes, the French fingerling was first known as the Roseval. Like all potatoes, these ones are grown in the ground and dug up in early fall.

These potatoes are enjoyed roasted, steamed, or in a salad. They also are great to use for making gnocchi and chips! Potatoes purchased in supermarkets are often treated with chemicals to prevent sprouting (or “eyes”). These potatoes have been harvested in the Fall and are NOT chemically treated and are considered to be alive. When properly stored, sprout growth is minimal, but if sprouting happens, simply remove them and cook as usual! Potatoes that are not stored in a dark, 7-8 degree Celsius place are best enjoyed within 2 weeks.
