Certified Organic - These are large apples!

Granny Smith apples are bright green apples that may have a light yellow or pink blush when grown in colder climates. The white flesh is crisp with a balanced, sweet and tart flavour. They have a long shelf life and thick skin, with a balanced, sweet and tangy flavor profile that makes it suitable for both fresh and cooked applications.

When fresh, Granny Smith apples provide a tart flavor that works well in green salads, on fruit platters, sliced and served with nut butter, blended into smoothies, or thinly sliced and layered into sandwiches with aged cheeses or peanut butter. The fruits are also dipped in caramel and served as a fresh dessert. Granny Smith apples are a popular variety for baking, being listed in recipes for cakes, cobblers, crisps, and pies, as the flesh holds its shape when cooked and does not brown quickly. The green apples can also be used in soups, cooked into pancakes, blended into applesauce, or juiced for cider. Granny Smith apples pair well with sharp cheeses such as blue, feta, and gorgonzola, meats such as poultry, pork, and beef, arugula, spinach, potatoes, beets, and fruits such as banana, citrus, and pineapple.

These crisp, firm apples were discovered in 1868, as a chance seedling in a compost pile on the farm of Maria Ann "Granny" Smith in Ryde, which is now a suburb of Sydney, Australia. The famous apple has been celebrated with the Granny Smith festival in Sydney every year since 1985, drawing huge crowds of over 80,000 people!
